Operation Crocodile Smile: Niger Delta Militants will soon be wiped out - Buratai

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has assured that the Nigerian army has what it takes to deal with militants in the Niger Delta region. Militancy in the region has risen since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power with the vandalism of oil and gas pipelines.

The Punch reports that the chief of army staff gave this assurance on Wednesday, September 7 during the unveiling of the ‘Exercise Crocodile Smile’ at the jetty of the Amphibious Training School in Calabar.

Buratai said it was the duty of the army tomaintain peace and order and vowed that the activities of militants in the creeks of Bakassi and Akpabuyo local government areas of Cross River State would soon come to an end.

Buratai unveiled a boat hanger and five gunboats and said all trouble makers in the region will be dealt with as security would be provided both land and on water.
“We are launching Operation Crocodile Smile in the Niger-Delta because we want to make our presence felt and to ensure that all criminal elements from the region are fished out and dealt with accordingly.”
“Our readiness to effectively safeguard the creeks in the Niger-Delta region is not in doubt as our amphibious personnel have been training and retraining to ensure that they fulfil their mandate.”
He said it was the duty of the military to keep the country safe and would not allow anyone threaten the peace of the nation.
